Volunteering with The Big Gay Picnic is about helping create a welcoming and inclusive space for the San Diego LGBTQIA+ community. As a volunteer, you’ll be part of the team that plans, coordinates, and maintains our monthly picnics. From handling behind-the-scenes tasks like managing finances or securing permits, to interacting with the community and promoting the event, every role is vital.
Whether you’re setting up tables or organizing outreach, we encourage you to find a volunteer role that matches your strengths and passions. No effort is too small, and together we can continue to create a fun, safe space for San Diego's LGBTQIA+ community and their allies each month.
Here are just a few ideas on ways to help for aspiring volunteers:
Help spread the word! Work with local businesses and community centers to post flyers and get the message out to the community at large.
Assist with brainstorming, organizing, and coordinating new activities or themes for upcoming picnics, ensuring each event is unique and engaging.
Help set up the potluck station, manage incoming food, greet new people and engage with curious passers-by as they come in, and ensure everything is organized so everyone can enjoy their meal.
Be part of the team that gets everything ready for the picnic! This includes setting up canopies, tables, and other equipment, and helping clean up after the event.
This thing ain't free. Assist with raising donations to cover event costs, whether by reaching out to sponsors, helping with raffles, or coordinating community donations at the picnic.
Volunteers are the heart of this organization. Whether you can help out for a few months or want to be a bigger part of our merry band, be welcome!
