The Big Gay Picnic is a free once-a-month potluck-style picnic centered around the LGBT+ community in sunny San Diego, California. The Big Gay Picnic is a fun community-lead event that brings everyone together and takes place in a large grassy area on the West side of San Diego’s iconic Balboa Park.
Although the Big Gay Picnic started in 2021 as a small picnic among friends, it has grown in size over the years due to its popularity. Today, each picnic draws around 200 people a month, from locals to new San Diegans. All are welcome, including pets!
The Big Gay Picnic is an Unincorporated Association, for the community and by the community. We are not a 501(c)(3) organization; donations are not tax-deductable. Picnic goers are encouraged to bring a shareable dish, a picnic blanket, friends, or anything else that adds to the event. Through partnerships with local non-profits, businesses, and community organizations, the Big Gay Picnic’s organizers are also able to provide volleyball, Cornhole and various picnic games, a live DJ, and community resources like free HIV testing.
